Moon Glow and Twisted Brew
Are you a curious person? Is your curiosity so strong that you find yourself reading about a topic on the Internet or paging through a book to find out more about it? Do you want to learn as much about the subject as possible?
Meet Julia. She’s 11, and she’s curious. But she doesn’t have an iPad or a computer to look up anything on the world wide web. She lives in 1884 and is just fine without the electronic gadgets of the 21st century. Her source of information is a live person. She learns from her godmother, Aunt Julianne. Although seven years apart, they share a special kinship.
Back in 1883 when Julia Bates was ten, Aunt Julianne had taught her about the Hudson River school artists. They had read books together and poured over artistic prints. But now Julianne Wrede is into astronomy. She studies the stars and planets and Julia is more than willing to learn everything and anything from this interesting relative.
But Aunt Julianne is suddenly called away from Cobblestone Island and she, Julia, is put in charge of taking notes when a visiting astronomer comes to lecture about the stars. At one “star party” when islanders meet to learn what’s in the night sky, Julia and her sister Lillian overhear two people discussing how they plan to mix up strange potions. What the girls hear does not sound good!
Yet what Julia and Lillian see is even worse. In the woods, they discover a small cabin that contains cauldrons of bubbling brew and shelves of shady solutions. They believe something horrible is happening right before their eyes and feel helpless to stop the twisted cooking.
Paulina Bates is 10 and her best friend is her 10 year-old cousin, Dellie Wrede. They get along well together, especially when they are immersed in a creative project. However, Paulina doesn’t know what to do when she finds herself in disagreement over how to react when Dellie’s mother gets terribly sick.
Julia’s natural joy is challenged as she tries to make sense of what is happening in the brew cabin. Paulina struggles to attain peace as she disapproves of how Dellie treats her mother. What’s more, Paulina believes she may have lost a true friend.
Twelve year-old Luke is very much a part of the story, too. He experiences a near disaster with a native American on the island and observes a real disaster with Paulina on the night of an October lunar eclipse. The story comes to an end when the moon and the twisted brew literally meet together in an exciting climax. Witness how Julia finds her joy and Paulina settles into peace. Come into the late nineteenth century world of the nine Children of the Light. Enjoy another journey into unexpected adventure and spiritual discovery in Book 2 of the Children of the Light series, Moon Glow and Twisted Brew.
